Update on the Little Man

Hello everyone! Well, this will be pretty short because Matthew just woke up and is going to want to be fed very soon. He's pretty impatient when it comes to his meals! Which I completely understand - so are his Daddy and I :o) Well he is now just over 3 weeks old. Time has both flown and dragged by during this time. It seems like he's been around forever but, at the same time, the day that I have to return to work is coming up faster than I'd like! But it's still almost 5 weeks away. It's going to be very hard to leave him, but good to get back to the old routine, I guess. He had his 2 week checkup last Tuesday. He weighed 8lb 7oz and was 21.5 inches long. Growing already! I'm so glad, because I was worried that breastfeeding wasn't going very well. It just seems like he was always not eating for as long as I thought he should, not eating on both sides, having trouble latching on, etc. I expected that breastfeeding would be physically painful to some extent, but I was very unprepared for the emotional pain! It's very traumatic for a new mother to wonder if she is starving her baby. Plus, as I mentioned in my previous post, I suffered from the "baby blues" for a couple weeks after giving birth. I felt very depressed at times, and pretty inadequate at the whole mothering thing. Thank goodness it has mostly passed, though. And breastfeeding is going much better!

Well, better go. I would post some pictures, but since I'm at home with only dial-up available it takes way too long. I'll be sure to put some baby photos up at the end of July, though, once I'm back in the office. Everyone take care!
